So, it's official. I'm just the worst blogger ever.
I haven't posted pictures of my house.
I haven't done any insightful DIY projects.
Quite frankly, short of actually moving our stuff in, I haven't done jack since we moved to this house.
I mean, I've obviously done stuff. Just nothing that pertains to this blog.
Which is intensely unfortunate. Because I do love crafting dearly.
It keeps my hands busy. It entertains me. It takes my mind off of life.
Nothing beats that.
Regardless, I've just had my mind on other things.
My craft room is collecting dust.
Needless to say, when I heard Big Brothers Big Sisters was doing the Pin & Ink Showcase again, I knew that I had to do it.
I'm a "Big" myself. I love it. It's totally and completely changed my life. For the better, of course.
And anything I could do to aid in the fundraising process for this amazing organization, I was going to do.
I wanted to do this last year, but I totally just spaced it out and time just got away from me.
This year, though I was bound and determined to do it.
Summary of this event: Local artists, amateur and professional, decorate bowling pins for BBBS to auction off at a charity event.
I grabbed my bowling pin and all of a sudden had a flurry of ideas in my head about how to paint it.
New York Skyline?
I mean, KU was obviously my first choice originally. But then I went back and forth
eh, other people have done that.
what if there are other ones there that are cooler than mine?
And then I thought...who gives a crap?
Just do it!
So I did.
At first I was just going to do the 1912 Jayhawk,
so I started drawing my initial sketch.
And then, in true Auffert fashion, I changed my mind.
I had a better idea, actually.
The theme: Tradition
For those of you who don't know, I'm wildly obsessed with the University of Kansas basketball team.
And we have hella tradition.
After all, when James Naismith invented the game of basketball in MA, he came to the University of Kansas to put the game into action.
And so, the best sport was born.
Nearly a hundred years later, I was born and became obsessed with Kansas basketball.
It's a medical condition.
Don't judge me.
Our tradition is a huge part of why the basketball team has grown exponentially.
And also a huge part of why I love the University of Kansas SO much.
Clearly I had no choice.
I started over - fresh coat of primer spray paint, and a coat of antique white over that.
And I'll let the pictures take it from here.
|I felt like this part was essential to add. This was the day Kenz & I were matched! :)|
The Pin & Ink Showcase is next Friday at the Steifel Theater in Salina. More information available here.
And check out the Big Brothers Big Sisters Website for more info on Bowl for Kid's Sake & being a mentor!
Sorry for the lack 'o posts, kids. Won't happen again.
